Default Salvaging Materials

We all know that now you get to choose what you want to salvage off of a weapon. Example: I have an Icy Falchion of Enchanting. When I use a salvage kit on it I can choose to salvage either the icy mod or the enchanting mod. Ever wonder why you can't do that with a piece of monster armor? Or for materials from a weapon or off hand? My suggestion is to make this possible. For another example: Jade has a regular every day Mursaat Hammer. When salvaged this item can produce 1 of 3 materials, either iron ingots, wood planks or steel ingots. Make it so that it works the same way that salvaging mods does. I get to choose whether to salvage off the iron or the wood or the steel. Now some will say that this would imbalance the economy because everyone would be salvaging off the expensive materials. I disagree. There are many times when I'm out getting materials and I want cloth. I go to salvage a piece of critter armor that in the past has given me lots of cloth and now it gives me a bolt of silk. I didn't want the silk, I wanted the cloth. I think that even if this does (heaven fobid! ) drop the price of rare materials, would it be so bad? I mean whats the current cost for a suit of FoW armor? How many people can actually afford it without buying gold off of some crappy site? *cough* ebay *cough* Besides, it wouldn't actually drive the price down too much, because, and correct me if I am wrong on this, you can't salvage ectos from anything. Big deal if it costs you 30g instead of 200g for a steel ingot.

Thoughts?

This is a tough one. I like the idea but I don't know if it would be good or bad in the long run. I'm gonna say /sign for now. It's a pretty smart idea.

Just as an added thought, it could make use of the Treasure Hunter title and the Wisdom Title.

For each rank of the Treasure Hunter as well as the Wisdom title track earned, the chance of an item not being destroyed when salvaging a magical upgrade component is increased by 3 percent from a base of 50 percent.

Title-------------------------Salvage Bonus Increase
Treasure Hunter ----------------------- 3%
Adept Treasure Hunter ----------------- 6%
Advanced Treasure Hunter ------------- 9%
Expert Treasure Hunter ---------------- 12%
Elite Treasure Hunter ------------------ 15%
Master Treasure Hunter ---------------- 18%
Grandmaster Treasure Hunter ---------- 21%
(Max level)

This means that at Grandmaster the chance of an item not being destroyed is 71%. Now just to power down my own idea, make the salvaging of materials based off of this chart, sorta.

Example 1: Johnny the Wammo has a plain, no mods, Mursaat Hammer. He has his Treasure hunter title at Grandmaster. Salvaging said hammer would give him the option of salvaging iron ingots, wood planks, or steel ingots from it.

Example 2: Larry the Wammo has the same exact Mursaat hammer. But he only has his treasure hunter title at Expert Treasure Hunter. Larry only hase the option to salvage iron ingots or wood from his hammer.

See what I'm getting at? I'm sure there's a more simple way of doing this, even if you wanted to use the percentages from the titles. More input would be appreciated. Because I know I'm not the only one who looks into thier storage when it's time to buy new armor and says, "Wow, I thought I had more tanned hide squares in there than that. I guess I'd better start farming the materials now."

Comments like that get threads like this closed. I'm sure not a single person on these forums who earned their Obsidian armor the legitimate way appreciated that comment, and they are probably ready to flame you for it.

Watch what you say. That goes for everyone else, too.
